Tennis Elbow

  • Irritation of the tendon of the muscle, extensor carpi radialis brevis, that attaches to the outside of the elbow

  • May be due to overuse of the finger and wrist extensors with grip intensive activities such as gardening, weight lifting, cooking and tennis

  • The muscles of the wrist extensors attach up at the elbow. Even though pain is at the elbow, it is usually caused from motions at your wrist

  • Golfers elbow is very similar, its just the wrist flexors involved. Pain is on the inside of the elbow.

  • You can try different elbow supports, but that is only temporary relief. You need restore strength and function, and change the root of what is causing it.

  • Signs/symptoms:

    • Pain along the outside of the elbow that increases with finger and wrist extension (Palm down ,bending wrist toward arm)

    • Dull/achy pain, may be sharp at times

    • Weakness in hand and forearm
